What Is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the world’s premier retail sales event, traditionally marking the unofficial start of the festive shopping season. Originating in the United States on the day following Thanksgiving, Black Friday has evolved into a global phenomenon—becoming the single busiest shopping weekend for British consumers.

During Cyber Week, UK retailers offer major price reductions across consumer electronics, fashion, beauty, and home goods. These seasonal price drops frequently represent the lowest prices of the year, making it the ideal window to secure high-value items at a fraction of their standard RRP.

When Is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?

In 2026, Black Friday falls officially on Friday, 27 November 2026. However, the days of single-day sales are long gone; most major UK stockists kick off their “Black November” warm-up events in early November.

Unadvertised price drops often extend through Cyber Monday and roll straight into festive Christmas sales, Boxing Day events, and January clearance deals.

Are Black Friday Deals Worth It?

Yes—provided you shop strategically. While some retailers offer minor percentage drops, major UK brands routinely cut prices by 20% to 70% across premium product categories.

Even brands that rarely offer direct site-wide discounts (such as Apple or Dyson) participate indirectly by issuing promotional gift cards, bonus accessories, or trade-in vouchers when purchasing via authorised UK stockists. At This Black Friday, we cross-reference historic pricing data to ensure every deal featured on our platform delivers genuine savings.

5 Expert Tips for Shopping on Black Friday

Navigating Cyber Week requires a clear plan of action. Follow these insider tips to ensure you secure the best offers before stock runs out:

Look Out for Trade-In & Voucher Bundles: Many tech brands offer additional cashback or extra trade-in credit when recycling old devices during checkout.

Build a Wishlist Early: Create a clear shopping list of desired models and specifications before sales go live. Staying focused prevents impulse buying and keeps your holiday budget intact.

Start Tracking Prices in Early November: UK retailers frequently drop deals weeks before the main event. Popular stock moves fast—setting up price alerts on ThisBlackFriday.co.uk guarantees you won’t miss fast-moving “Lightning Deals.”

Focus on the Final Price, Not the Percentage: Don’t be misled by large “50% off” claims. Check the final checkout price against previous months’ street prices to verify genuine savings.

Compare Authorised Retailers: Never settle for the first store you visit. While Amazon UK may lead on fast delivery, retailers like John Lewis & Partners often match prices while providing free extended warranties.
